History of Corona Virus

Coronavirus emerged in early 2000s

Coronavirus is not a single virus, it's a large family of viruses that can cause illness ranging widely in severity.
The first known illness was emerged in China way back in 2003. It is known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). A second outbreak began in 2012 in Saudi Arabia with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

The latest addition to the corona virus family is SARS-CoV-2 (also known as COVID19) which emerged in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, China. It is believed that this virus is a result of natural evolution. Outbreaks in past were linked with civets(SARS) and camels(MERS) while the researchers proposed bats as the most likely reservoir for COVID'19.
